Frequently Asked Questions
- Where are you located?
- I work primarily from my home in Murray, Utah but love to travel for clients such as the home bound, bridals, parties, etc. *a fee may be charged for travel expenses
- What is a tip set?
- Typically known as acrylic nails, this is an application using a plastic nail tip, gluing it to your natural nail and applying a nail product (acrylic) over the top.
- What are the different shapes of nail enhancements?
- Shapes of nails vary dramatically, depending on current trends, lifestyle and age.
- One of the most common shapes worn today is the "square" look. This shape has no rounding of the corners and appears to be a "square" looking nail. It’s stronger the more product you have spanning the width of your nail tip, but does carry the risk of chipping edges. Medium and long nails tend to work the best with this shape.
- "Sqouval" is a hybrid of two words: oval and square. It is the same shape as the square nail, with slight rounding of the corners, thereby creating a square/oval shape. This shape, like square, is also popular and withstands everyday life without a lot of damage.
- "Rounded" nails are just that - rounded. Depending how much is filed away determines the strength. However smooth, rounded tips are not as easy to chip or tear (no edges to catch on) and is often ideal for short nails.
- "Pointed" or “Stiletto” nails are the least strong and prone to breakage; though still requested. In most cases you won’t be able to do this witchy-poo shape at home but it’s a fun look to take on for a weekend so long as you don’t claw anyone.
- What is a regular fill?
- A regular fill is the application of product between your nail cuticle and the grow-out portion of your artificial nail. This service also includes repairing of any cracks, breakage or lifting of the nail product, and a fresh application of polish.
- How do I take care of my artificial nail enhancements?
- Taking charge of your nail enhancements, once you leave an appointment should be high on your priority list. Here are some guidelines in order to maintain your nail enhancements for the long term:
- Using high quality cuticle oil, oil the nails at least one time per day. The best time to do this for me is at night right before I get into bed. Another time may be right after the shower. Ideally, twice per day will give you the best results, but at least once per day will do. Not using cuticle oil may cause products to become brittle, which may in turn cause cracking and/or breakage of your nail enhancements.
- If your nails become too long before your next appointment, simply shorten them by using a 340-grit file. NEVER use nail clippers, as they may cause shattering of your nail enhancements.
- If you have any questions of concerns give me a call as I always love hearing from you no matter what the occasion. It’s better to ask now than wait until your next appointment.
- How often should I get a fill?
- Of course how often you come in for a fill is a personal decision but I do recommend at least every 2-3 weeks because the longer you go between fills, the more apt you are to experience lifting and/or breakage, which in turn can result in nail mold.
